Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 Choralis season, “The Heartbeat of Humanity.” At a time when world events and social media messages seem to encourage divisiveness, Choralis has elected to focus this season on that which unites us…marvel at the natural world, joy in the presence of loved ones, grief in times of loss, the search for meaning in life and the hope for peace at death. This is what we have in common.  This is what makes us human.  This is the heartbeat of humanity.

The masterworks I selected for this season pulse with that heartbeat, triumphing over the messages of disunity in our modern world.

  • Choralis opens the season in October with Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (The Creation), considered by many to be his masterpiece
  • Ēchos will present a November concert “One World, One Voice” that features music for double choir as well as global music
  • Our annual “A Classic Brass Christmas” concert will feature all of the Choralis ensembles in a performance of John Rutter’s Gloria and other pieces that fill us with the holiday spirit
  • In March, members of Choralis and Ēchos will perform Handel’s Messiah, joined by the winners of our 2017 Young Artist Competition
  • Choralis will close the season with My Spirit Rejoices, a concert of works focused on spiritual joy and renewal, including the Bach MagnificatBruckner Te Deum, and Brahms Schaffe in mir Gott

By lifting our voices in songs that remind us that there is still beauty, joy, love, and peace to be shared, even in a world that seems to be on fire, we hope to offer the healing power of music to you.  Won’t you join us?
